Currently, he’s been suspended for 30 of his last 35 games. “After careful thought and deep consideration I’ve decided that I need to step away from pursuing my return to the Browns and my football career to enter an inpatient rehabilitation facility,” Gordon said in a statement released by the team. “This is the right decision for me and one that I hope will enable me to gain full control of my life and continue on a path to reach my full potential as a person. I appreciate the support of the NFL, NFLPA, the Browns, my teammates, my agent and the community through this extremely challenging process.” Gordon, who’s currently serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy multiple times, was set to rejoin the team on Monday for all football activities and was eligible to play Oct. 9 against the Patriots at FirstEnergy Stadium. Instead, he’ll enter rehab for at least the third time in his career. The first time was in 2014 after a DUI and the second time was this off-season. “We support Josh in taking this step to seek additional help and treatment,” said Browns head of football operations Sashi Brown. “His singular focus must be on his own health. Gordon was conditionally reinstated from his indefinite suspension on July 25.
